What Does ADHD Look Like?

ADHD is more than occasional distraction. If these patterns show up at school, at work, or at home, an evaluation can tell you what's really going on:

  • Difficulty focusing or staying on task
  • Forgetfulness and losing track of things
  • Trouble finishing projects you started
  • Feeling overwhelmed by everyday demands
  • Restlessness or feeling constantly "on the go"
  • Strained relationships at home, school, or work

Who We Evaluate

ADHD looks different at every age. Our licensed clinicians tailor each evaluation to the person in front of them.

🧒

Children & Teens

Homework battles every night? Teachers raising concerns? We gather input from parents and teachers across home and school, so the picture is complete before anyone reaches a conclusion.

🎓

College Students

Deadlines slipping and focus fading when it matters most. An evaluation can clarify what's going on and open the door to accommodations and treatment that actually help.

💼

Adults

Many adults spend years wondering why work, attention, and follow-through feel harder than they should. Finally understand the why, and leave with personalized next steps.

How the Evaluation Works

No one-session diagnoses. A structured process that draws on multiple sources of information, not a single questionnaire.

1. Intake & Clinical Screening

Meet with a licensed clinician to review your concerns, history, and symptoms, in person or by secure video.

2. Rating Scales & Multi-Source Input

Validated rating tools plus input from parents, teachers, or partners. ADHD shows up across settings, so we look across settings.

3. Objective Attention Assessment (Optional QbTest)

An FDA-cleared computerized assessment that provides objective data on attention, impulsivity, and activity levels.

4. Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluation

Your clinician reviews everything together to determine whether ADHD criteria are met, or whether something else better explains the symptoms.

5. Feedback & Next Steps

A clear explanation of your results and personalized recommendations for you or your family. If it's not ADHD, you still get answers.

Objective Testing

The QbTest: Data, Not Just Impressions

Kaafi Counseling offers the optional QbTest, an FDA-cleared computerized assessment and one of the most widely used objective tests for ADHD. It measures how the brain handles attention, impulsivity, and activity, and it can track changes over time, including response to medication.

  • FDA-cleared and research-backed
  • Adds objective data to your clinical evaluation
  • Useful for tracking treatment progress later

What Happens After a Diagnosis?

You won't be handed a report and sent on your way. Kaafi is an integrated group practice: evaluation, therapy, and psychiatric care all under one roof. Your evaluation flows directly into a treatment plan, with clinicians who talk to each other.

Common Questions

How long does an ADHD evaluation take?
Most clients complete the process within 2 to 3 weeks, depending on scheduling and how quickly rating scales come back. You'll leave the feedback session with clear results and next steps.
Can you diagnose ADHD in one visit?
No. An accurate diagnosis takes a structured intake, validated rating scales, input from people who know you (or your child), and a full diagnostic review by a licensed clinician. That's why our process draws on multiple sources of information, not a single questionnaire.
What if it turns out it's not ADHD?
You still get answers. Attention problems can come from anxiety, sleep issues, mood, trauma, and more. If ADHD criteria aren't met, your clinician explains what better fits the picture and what to do about it.
Can the evaluation be done by telehealth?
Yes. We offer both in-person appointments at our West Palm Beach office and secure telehealth across Florida. Your clinician will walk you through which parts of the process can be completed online.
Will my insurance cover it?
Most parts of the evaluation, including intake, diagnostics, therapy, and medication visits, are covered by most major plans, including Medicare. The optional QbTest may be private pay. We'll help you verify benefits before you start.
Do you treat ADHD too, or just test for it?
Both. Kaafi Counseling is a group practice with licensed therapists, a clinical psychologist, and board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioners, so evaluation, therapy, and medication management all happen in one place, with a care team that coordinates.
